Digger did not participate in the BTC Specialty in Mahone Bay except for the Parade of Verstaility but at the supported South shore Kennel Club Rally Trial on June 1st in Lunenburg he completed his Rally Intermediate title with a 100 and first place under Darwin Boles.
|
Scent Detection - Doberman Pincher Club of Montreal - St. Lazare, QC, April 28, 2024 - judge Kelly Ladouceur
I was so proud of Digger, he completed his Scent Detection Container title by qualifying in Master Containers, and while he did not qualify in Master Interior or Master Excellent he found the very difficuly high hide in both elements.
|
Scent Detection - Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club of Canada - Kemptville, ON, April 20, 2024 - judge Christine Hansen
Digger earned his Scent Detection Excellent Title by passing Excelelnt Exteriors.
|
Rally Intermediate one step closer - Belleville & District Kennel Club - March 24, 2024
Digger was running on a perfect score under judge Edward Leslie when I messed up the last sign dropping him to a 90, Sorry Digger, my fault!!
|
Rally Intermediate fun continues...this time in Canada - North Gower Dog Club, ON - December 03, 2023
Digger pulled out all the stops in Rally Intermediate under Deana Abbott to earn his first leg with a well deserved 100 and first place.
|
Belleville and District Kennel Club Scent Trials, October 7th, 2023
Digger aced all 3 elements to earn his Open title and then did a lovely job qualifying in Excellent Containers and Interiors.
He would also have got his Excellent Exterior (in gale force lakeside conditions) if I had just believed him!!!
Kudos to everyone who played a role in putting on these Tests, if it was a [very] long day for the competitors it was even longer for the judges and volunteers yet they were as friendly, cheerful and helpful at the end as they were at the beginning.
Congratulations to all who Q’d, especially in Exteriors, it was a blast in more ways than one.
Thanks to Mikki Bradford for your tutoring, you would have been as proud of Digger as I was.
Thanks also go to Chris Dyer for his help as "hide hider" at home
|
Border Terrier Club of America National Specialty and Associated Events, June 10-16, 2023
Digger achieved all I wanted him to and in fine style. He earned his first FAST Agility Q under judge Craig Josling with 2nd place and his first Rally Intermediate Q under judge Jamie Jo Sieveking with a 99 and first place.
|
German Shorthair Pointer Club of America Agility Trials, Syracuse, NY - March 25-26, 2023
Quite the weekend. Interesting, educational and, for the most part, successful.
This was my first time attending an AKC Agility trial other than at the BTCA Nationals.
This one was held at the Syracuse Obedience Training Club facility - a superb venue for any one ring event. Icing on the cake was the option of renting a crate for $5 a day. Sure beats schlepping.
Also my introduction to “Agility Gate”.
This is a smart phone app that allows you to check in online. Notify the committee of scratches or conflicts, download maps and monitor the running board in real time.
Digger ran 4 for 4 completing his AKC Novice Standard Preferred and Novice JWW Preferred Titles.
|
Simcoe Performance Dog CKC Agility Trials, Barrie - December 04, 2022, Judge Sherri Gourlie
What a way to finish the year!!
They were not the prettiest of runs as I chose a couple of front crosses where a rear or blind would have been much smoother and more efficient but keeping his focus has proven key to qualifying.
And qualify he did, completing his CKC Excellent Standard and Excellent Jumpers with Weaves running as a veteran.
So proud of my boy!
|
Simcoe Performance Dog CKC Agility Trials, Barrie - November 06, 2022, Judge Billie McLean
His first run - Excellent Standard - was a total disaster, disconnected doesn't even begin to describe it. However, he stayed focused on his first JWW run and qualified for his second leg. A third leg and title eluded us when we got to the weave poles on his second JWW run. All the same, I am very proud of my multi-talented boy.
|
Kingston & District KC CKC Agility Trials, Harrowsmith - September 17-18, 2022
Shoot the handler!!!!!
After a rough start on Saturday, Digger put it together in his first Standard run of the day to earn his second Excellent Standard Q. He would have earned his title on his second run if his handler [me] hadn't lost the plot and sent him over the wrong jump. The courses were very confusing but even so.....

CAC CKC St. Lazare CKC Agility Trials, St. Lazare, QC - September 11, 2022
Slow but sure!!
Digger Q'd with two first place finishes in Excellent Jumpers With Weaves and Excellent Standard running as a veteran under judge Marie-Noelle Cote
|
Finger Lakes Kennel Club Trick Dog, Candor, NY - July 23 - Evaluator Lini Federici
Digger had zero interet in doing earthdog but put in a reasonable performance to earn his Novice Trick Dog Title
|
2022 BTCA National Specialty successes, Wilmington OH, June 12-14, 2022
Digger wanted no part of Earthdog on the Sunday but thrilled me with two qualifying runs in Agility. Earning his first Q in Standard Novice Prefered (3rd place) and his first Q in JWW Novice Prefered (1st place) under judge Ross Johnson
He also passed his Canine Good Citizen test.
|
Stafforsdshire Bull Terrier Club of Canada - Scent detection - April 24, 2022, Kemptville, ON - judge Christine Hansen
Digger earned a bonus Interior Q with a lovely (and happy) performance.
He then completed his CKC Novice Scent Detection title by qualifying in Exteriors under rather windy conditions. It took him a while but he did not get frustrated and was very happy in his work. Tail wagging the whole time.
|
And that's a wrap!
On Target AAC Agility Trial, Colbourne, ON - April 03, 2022 - Judge Kathie Grant.
I managed to keep my big feet off the tape and Digger had way more points than he needed to earn his second Starter Gamble Q.
That completes his Starter Games title. Love you Digger Dawg!
|
It wasn't pretty...but!
North Gower Dog Club Scent Detection Trial, North Gower, ON - March 20, 2022 - Judge Rose Brown
Digger was clearly "not in the game" but still managed to pull off his Novice Interior Search Q.
|
Simcoe Performance Dogs Agility Trial, Barrie, ON - February 20, 2022 - Judge Wendy Beard
After running flawlessly, we were about to head for the finish when Digger went a crittering. This put him at the far end of the arena at the whistle. Thankfully he had enough extra points under his "pelt" to offest the nine seconds it took us get to the last jump and stop the clock.
Pretty or not, that completed his Novice PAD!
We won't discuss his Excellent Standard "run"
|
On Target AAC Agility Trial, Colbourne, ON - November 27, 2021 - Judge Robin Robbs
Despite the cold (he was stripped barely a week ago, Digger did exactly what I asked of him and earned his second Snooker Q with a respectable 39 points (32 required) in just 37.54 seconds (SCT 60 seconds)
|
The Gamble Paid off
On Target AAC Agility Trial, Colbourne, ON - October 31st, 2021 - Judge Ian Cranstone
I took a chance and entered Digger in Starter Gambler at this venue knowing it was an arena with dirt floor.
He did not disappoint.
He aced the first mini gamble, then I got a bit in his way and he became creative at the second mini gamble so I went with what he gave me and he nailed the main gamble for stunning 52 points (16 required)
|
Exloring another new venue...with his nose
Kingston and District Kennel Club Scent Detection Trials, Mallorytown, October 16, 2021 - judge Christine Hansen
Digger's debut in Scent Detection saw him ace his Instinct test and succeed in Novice Containers (the only element I entered him in). Conditions were difficult [for him] but his nose prevailed in the end.
Oh so proud of my multi-talented boy!
|
Snooker'ed
Big Sky AAC Agility Trials, Harrowsmith, ON, September 18, 2021 - Judge Pam Ford
Despite my mess up during the closing sequence (he missed a jump and I bobbled the redirect causing him to back jump), Digger amassed enough points to earn his first Snooker Q. We also ran Steeplechase but that is not his game. Two bobbled weave entrances were enough to have us over time. No more Steeplechase for him or me.
|
After the Lord Mayor's show.....
Kingston and District Kennel Club CKC Agility Trials, Harrowsmith, ON, August 7-8, 2021
Digger had an absolutley awesome run, qualifying in Novice PAD under judge Wendy Beard with way more points than needed. On Sunday, he was less than thrilled by my choice to rung crew most of the day and blew me off big time on what should have been an easy jumps and tunnels course under judge Sandra Easford.
|
That segment done
The Agility Connection, Big Sky, July 31st, 2021 - Judge: Brian Wickenheiser.
Digger was only entered in the one run, Starter Jumpers, but he made it a good one. Staying with me and running clean.
|
Playing a new game
The Agility Connection, Big Sky, July 9th, 2021 - Judge: Ian Cranstone.
Digger had two Starter Jumpers runs, the first one he was doing really well until I briefly lost his focus and he went behind a tunnel to visit ring crew!
His second run while not fast was flawless. First leg twowards a games title.
|
...And Finished
We had two AAC Starter Standard runs on June 16th, 2021 in an evening trial at Big Sky. The weather was as perfect as perfect can be and judge Janet Lundy credited us with two lovely flowing courses.
As often happens, Digger's terrier heart won out on his fisrt run and he just had to check things out but his second run, while not fast was clean.
Thus he completed his ADC title
|
Switching Venues once more!!
Gableridge BHA Barn Hunt Tests, Arnprior, ON November 7th-8th, 2020.
Although it will never rival Earthdog in his mind, Digger enjoyed just being a terrier at Barn Hunt at the weekend.
Once I remembered that, in this sport, he is the team leader, he got the job done in fine style earning his RATN title.
Judge Cynthia Sandison is one to put on your "friend not foe" list for her patient and encouraging attituded
|
Starting Again
With AKC Agility plans on hold and no indoor trials, I did what I swore I would never do and entered Digger in outdoor trials (somewhere other than CAC St. Lazare).
Thankfully he is running Starters as they are AAC Trials so a new venue for him.
His first trial at Big Sky Event Centre in Harrowsmith on August 22nd was a blow out, the prime hunting land outside the beautiful (and thankfully well fenced) ring area was too tempting, resulting in several off courses situated such that they were deemed refusals.
His second outing on September 13th, 2020 was much better and resulted in 1 Q out of 3 runs. So he now has two Q's towards his Starters Standard title.
More important than the results, we both had a blast.
|
His Happy Place
September 6th, 2019 - First time on Agility equipment since April and Digger Q'd three for three at the Club Agilité Canin de St-Lazare CKC Trial under judge Danielle LeVangie.
Making a successful debut in Novice Jumps & Tunnels, Steeplechase and Novice Points & Distance.
I just love his work ethic. he was bouncing with anticipation from the moment we arrived.
|
On his way...again
May 12th 2019, at the Earthdog Association of Ontario CKC Earthdog tests, Digger earned his first CKC Senior earthdog leg under judge Ann Joondeph (a lovely judge)
|

Some Insurance Points
November 17, 2018
The news that Mike Calhoun might be retiting from judging prompted several of us to plan a trip to Moncton NB where he was judging All Breed Rally at the Collie Club of Canada Specialty and the Moncton Kennel Club shows.
It turns out, he is just [seriously] cutting back on assignments.
Still, it was a great opportunity for a fantastic get together with some amazing friends and the addition Top Rally Points didn't hurt either.
Digger scored 98 with a first place in the Collie Club of Canada Specialty Trial on Saturday morning and 96 and third place at the Moncton Trial in the afternoon

Digger was entered in both Rally Trials under judge Linda Desaulniers.
He completed his CKC Rally Novice Title with a very respectable 99 and first place
I was unable to move him up because of insufficient time between Trials so he earned a bonus leg with a decent 97.

Nicely Done
Champlain Valley Kennel Club Trials, October 31, 2014 and Burlington Obedience Training Club Trials, November 01, 2014 - Essex Junction, VT
Digger was entered in four Rally Trials.
He completed his AKC Rally Novice Title under judges Loraine Moffa, Mike Calhoun and Bruce Gibbons with scores of 96, 97 and 96 respectively,
I moved him up to Rally Advanced A for the fourth trial figuring I would pull him if the course included something that might stress either one of us.
Michelle Armitage set up a lovely flowing course and while our performance wasn't pretty, it was good enough for 1st place with a 91.
