Rocky Creek's CPE trials at the K9Jym in Colmar, December 28-29, 2019 - Judge Don Skibniewski
Fred earned his Level 1 Enthusiast Handler title (CTL1-H) and his Level 1 Enthusiast Completion title (CTL1)!
From Chris
"Freddy and I had a great weekend at Rocky Creek's CPE trials at the K9Jym in Colmar, under Judge Don Skibniewski. It was fun, yet sad, since the facility is closing at the end of the year. As always, Kim Lea Malmer and her workers gave us wonderful trials, and I look forward to them next year at new locations.
Freddy did me proud by qualifying in 9 out of 10 runs! Five 1st Places and four 2nd Places! A bauble on my part caused him to miss the down contact on the dog walk in Standard on Sunday, but otherwise, he ran the course clean.
Ribbon-wise, it wasn't a perfect weekend, but for me and Freddy it was. We spent quality time with each other and enjoyed the company of our agility friends. We hadn't done 10 runs in quite a long time, yet we accomplished so much!
So proud of his Jackpot Q and Snooker Q on Saturday! For me they were challenging courses, so made them even more special."

Rocky Creek's agility trial, November 23, 2019 - Judge Mike Conroy.
Fred earned his Level 1 Enthusiast Handler title (CTL1-H) and his Level 1 Enthusiast Completion title (CTL1)!
From Chris
"We are enjoying running the easier courses where he's not required to do weaves or teeter, unless I choose it for some of the games, and it's less stressful, since we're only playing to earn points towards his 1,000 point plaque. Whether we Q or not, doesn't matter, as long as he has a good run and fun.
It was a long day (7 a.m. to 5:30), but he did his best every time. We didn't Q in Snooker, as he dropped a bar in the opening, but it didn't matter to me. I feel I moved too soon which caused him to cut the angle causing the bar to drop. He was still my hero, and he got his chicken pieces none the less!"

CPE agility 28 September 2019 at Rocky Creek's trial, Judge Denielle Stasa.
After last week's health scare, it was great to see Freddy back in form going 4 for 5, with 1st Place in FullHouse, Standard, and Snooker, and Second Place in Jumpers!
From Chris
"Although we didn't qualify in Jackpot (2 seconds over time -- poor calculation on my part in the opening), I am proudest of that run because he got the gamble!
We haven't done Jackpot in years (not my favorite game), and it was a traditional course (as opposed to non-traditional).
It began with a jump to a curved tunnel to a jump and another jump.
The jump after the tunnel was at least 5' away from the line, and I really didn't think he would do it as we basically run close to one another.
He came out of the tunnel and I tried sending him "out jump", but he ran around it, so I called him to me (they can cross the line), and circled him around and sent him again, and he did it and the last jump too!
I shrieked at the end how awesome he was! All our friends were thrilled for him too! That's why it didn't matter we didn't Q, he got the gamble!
He also earned two more titles!
CTL1-S (Strategy) and CTL1-F (Fun)

Still Having Fun - September 14-15, 2019
From Chris
"Freddy played in CPE agility this past weekend at Y2K9s under Judge Joyce Yaccarino.
Since achieving his CT-ATCH, I decided to move him down to Level 1 Enthusiast so we can still have fun running easier courses.
As you see, Freddy went 5 for 5, plus earned his CTL1-R title (two Standard courses)! So proud of him!"

Team Freddie DID IT - February 09-10, 2019
Introducing.........
CT-ATCH Shivaree Fredericton's Finest
From Chris
"The trials hosted by Y2K9s, under Judge Mike Conroy, Fred and I qualified in our Standard run (our first of the day) to complete our CT-ATCH (CPE Enthusiast Agility Trial Championship)! Plus he got 1st Place!
I am so proud of my little red boy and all he's done to achieve this. As we finished the last jump, Dale (trial chair) came out with our bar and rosette and gave us a big hug. Of course I cried, screams of joy, then ran around the ring with Fred so excited! Went up to Mike and said how I couldn't believe we finally did it, and was so glad to get it under him as he was the judge we showed under the most. Once we left the ring, all my close friends hugged me and so many other competitors hugged me too and congratulated us! That's why I like CPE so much -- everyone routes and cheers everyone on whether we know them or not.
Fred celebrated by having liverwurst slices when he got back to his crate! I sat and thought how awesome, and how the pressure was finally off! Marie and Jim (beagles) gave me a beautiful photo tile with his title on it. Don and Roxanne Harris (bassets -- Gwen's breeding) were wonderful because Don recorded our run and is creating a dvd for me as a gift which I will get soon. Hopefully I will be able to post it to the group somehow.
We began our Level 5 journey in 2017, with me questioning whether we could do it. More so thinking about Fred and hoping his health would keep him fit enough to compete. My friends all had much more confidence in us than me, but I've always been that way. Others said two years is no big deal in working towards it.
After all the hoopla, we still had to run in Colors, but to be honest, I really didn't care whether we q'd or not. But Freddy did a fabulous run and qualified with 1st Place!
The rest of the day was awesome just sitting around, relishing our success, and enjoying everyone's compliments and having them start signing his bar.
For Sunday's trial I brought a cake to celebrate with everyone, as is the custom at the trials we attend.
Also on Sunday we were entered in FullHouse (first class of the day) and Standard (second class of the day). I entered both Standard runs originally based on qualifying in either one. Again, it was a relaxing day as our goal was done on Saturday.
Fred easily q'd in FullHouse with a 1st Place! When I studied the Standard course map, I was soooo thankful we got it on Saturday as it was much more involved (in my words -- ugly!), with 3 sets of 6 weaves since there was no dog walk.
But I walked it with the attitude that I didn't care if we q'd as we'd achieved our goal, so at least we'd have fun. Well.....Freddy did a bang up job, nailing every set of weaves, and qualified with a 2nd Place!

Great way to end the year - December 29-30, 2018
From Chris
"Fred and I played in CPE agility this weekend hosted by Rocky Creek and our judge was Donald Skibniewski.
He designed lovely, flowing courses.
My goal was to get at least one Standard leg and another Games leg. Well, Fred outdid himself and went 5 for 5!
On Saturday he qualified in FullHouse, Standard and Wildcard, all with 2nd Places!
On Sunday he qualified in Colors and Standard, again all with 2nd Places!
I am so proud of him! So all he needs now in one more Standard leg for his CT-ATCH, which I'm hoping we will do in February, either Saturday or Sunday."

Just 4 Q's to go - November 24-25, 2018
From Chris
"Freddy had a good weekend running in CPE agility hosted by Rocky Creek under judge Mike Conroy at K9Jym.
He went 5 for 7, with one 1st Place, two 2nd Places and two 3rd Places!
He is down to needing 3 Standard runs and one Games run for his CT-ATCH.
Never thought it was possible to get this far with his emotional challenges, yet here we are.
Our next trials are end of December (Rocky Creek), then February (Y2K9s) where hopefully he will finish."

July 07-08, 2018 - 3D Dog Agility CPE trials, judge Mike Conroy,
From Chris
"My goal (and hope) was to get another Standard run as they have been quite elusive lately (mostly time faults), and as it was our first run of the day, I was thrilled we q'd, and was happy with that accomplishment.
He then went on to do so well in Wildcard, Colors and Jumpers (our last run late in the day). We just squeezed by in Jumpers by 1 second (my bad - he ran past a jump because I took my eyes off him and forgot to give him a command, but he followed my direction to correct it); we're allowed 5 secs. over sct, and we were a mere 4! Whew!
So now Freddy is down to needing 9 legs; 4 of them being Standard, 1 FullHouse, and 4 of any other categories. The standards will be the most challenging, but I know we'll do it.
"

June 9-10, 2018 - Rocky Creek CPE agility trial at the K9Jym - judge Denielle Stasa
Freddie was entered in 3 runs on Saturday and 3 runs on Sunday.
Saturday he went 3 for 3, qualifying in Standard (1st Pl.), Colors (2nd Pl.), and FullHouse (2nd Pl.)
Sunday, he went 1 for 3, qualifying in Wildcard (2nd Pl.), but missing FullHouse and Standard. We are still very proud of him.
So he now only needs 13 legs; 5 of them being Standard, which we hope team Freddie can complete this year.

|
March 03, 2018 - Rocky Creek CPE agility trial at the K9Jym - judge Mary Phalon,
Fred qualified in Standard, Snooker, FullHouse, and Jumpers, all 1st Places!
The trial started 2 hours later due to the weather conditions, and yet when we all arrived the power was out in the area. Luckily Roy and Deb (the owners) were able to get generators to power the lights and heat in the ring area, then the crating area. Made it interesting, for sure, especially seeing folks studying our maps using flashlights or phones until the lights came on!
Fred now has 23 legs (out of 40)

Well done Chris and Fred

March 21st, 2015 - CynoSport Rally hosted by Oakes K9 held at the K9Jym. Judges Annette Murphy-Wales and Traci Isabella
In Chris' words
"Morning Trial:
We did Level 1 (on lead) first as I like to use it as a wake-up for both dogs as to what we are doing there.
Annette was our Level 1 Judge. Fred was a good boy and qualified with a score of 202 (210 is a perfect score)!
Traci was our Level 2 Judge. Normally I wouldn't be nervous about him being off-lead, except that with his "reactiveness" it's easy for him to lose focus and want to run and bark at other dogs, and who knows what else. Since according to the rules you can't close the ring openings, I was concerned. Fortunately, I mentioned it to the gate stewards and they stood at the entrance and had someone stand at the exit, so at least I knew if he tried to get out, they would catch him.
Best part is being able to have treats in your pocket! You are allowed to treat them at the start before you begin, which I did. As we went through the exercises, he kept looking up at me with a smile and I could tell he was having fun. At every stationary exercise I would treat him. He stayed with me, only forging a few times when his nose got the best of him, but he never gave a thought to leaving me completely and running off. When we finished, I was so proud of him! Traci said we did a nice job. I picked him up and gave him kisses and we went back to our area and he got pieces of chicken for being such a good boy! Fred qualified with a score of 198!
That gave him his 3rd Double Q towards his ARCH! (need double Q scores of 190 or higher in L1 and L2) Only two to go!
Afternoon Trial:
For his Level 1 (Traci our Judge) Fred qualified with a beautiful score of 203!
No double Q in the afternoon, but at least a Q towards his next L1 Championship. Guess he didn't want to spoil me.

October 19, 2014 - Tail Waggin' Events' Barn Hunt in Robbinsville, NJ
From Chris
"Our judge was Sharon Yon and she was really nice.
I released him and he took the tunnel first as it was right in front of us, and then he came around to a set of bales and became interested in a spot.
So I worked with him to see if that was it. He stuck his head into the area, pawed the straw away and pushed and sniffed the tube, so I went for it and called "rat".
It was! Yay Fred! So once they removed the tube, I had to get him to climb which took longer than usual as he just wanted to wander around!
Fred earned his 3rd Novice leg for his RATN Title!
His time wasn't spectacular (1:17:50), but he did it!"
|
|
September 27, 2014 - Barnhunt at Millstone Township, NJ
After overhandling Freddie in the first trial of the dat, Chris worked him better in the second trial by not talking as much and letting him do his thing (good advice Jo Ann!).
She did have to ask him to climb, but that was about it.
When he went to one corner of bales, he stuck his head in and sniffed a lot, then ran around the back and then Chris brought him back to that same spot.
He stayed there sniffing so Chris called it.
Fred qualified for his second leg! 1 min. 16 sec. which earned him 3rd Place!

Pawsable's Barn Hunt, aturday, May 10th 2014 - Judge Gwen McCullough
From Chris
"Fred entered fine and got the tunnel and climb. I followed him around, but he was getting distracted watching dogs outside the area, so I called him over to check out an area. He sniffed and seemed interested, then left to sniff elsewhere, but I brought him back again to that area to check it again. This time he spent more time and started sticking his head into the straw to sniff. In all fairness to him I decided to call it because I was getting hot and feeling faint, so I just wanted to finish. As luck would have it I was right! ;o)
Yay! Fred's first Novice Leg and 2nd Place to boot! His time wasn't stellar (1:14), but a Q is a Q! So I guess I'll continue with him after all, at least through Novice.

In Level 1 he qualified with a score of 196!
Another Double Q towards his ARCH (Rally Championship)!
Trial 2
Fred did Level 1 first and for the most part he was good, just forging every now and then, but aside from his sloppy sits and sniffing, he did a beautiful bonus: call front - sidestep R/L, which gave him a qualifying score of 203!
In Level 2, he was much more imaginative but despite his running around he neither lost too many points nor ran over time, and QUALIFIED WITH A SCORE OF 182!

Saturday, February 15, 2014, UKC Rally at the K9Jym.
Hosted by Kan-Do-K9s. There were two trials - morning and afternoon.
Fred continued his journey in Level 2A (off lead) and while his first attempt was highly entertaining to the spectators it was not a qualifying performance.
For his second attempt at qualifying, the course was a bit easier (thankfully no food bowls), but with Fred one never knows!
Indeed, he did his best to incorporate locating the food bowls from the morning trial into his afternnon run.
With that finally out of his system, he did the rest of the exercises beautifully and two of them were quite challenging. A 1-2-3 halt step and a halt-leave your dog-call your dog front while running-finish right-halt.
Fred qualified with a score of 85 and 1st Place!

He continued sniffing all over the place and I had to work to get his attention.
He kept mulling around the insides of the bales and of course I had to keep a mean eye so he didn't mark.
I finally got him to come over to the tubes and he started sniffing and stayed by one so I called it.
Hooray! It was the rat! Fred's time was 26 seconds.
Fred now has his first Barn Hunt title ---- RATI!"

Short, Sweet and Successful! - December 13, 2013 - CPE Agility
Fred only needed one CPE games Q to finish all his Level 1 requirements, so this past weekend I decided to enter him, and only him, in two Jackpot classes.
One was Friday evening (I took a vacation day) and one on Saturday morning.
Jackpot was the first class Friday evening and ran small to tall. Our judge was Jeff Boyer. Our game had a traditional gamble.
I knew Fred was capable of doing it as long as he paid attention and indeed he did.
Once the scores were posted -- we needed a total of 32 points (12 opening; 20 gamble) and we got 46! (26 in the opening)
He also got 1st Place and was the only dog in his class (Regular/Veterans) to qualify!
His final title in Level 1 -- CL1-S (Level 1 Strategy)
Thinking back, I guess Friday, the 13th, was a lucky day for us after all!

"Tea for two and two for tea"
From Chris:
Last Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7th and 8th, we played in Teacup agility at the K9Jym under Judge Mike Conroy.
Saturday
Fred qualified in Games 1 Tunnel Snookers with a 2nd Place! earning his TG1 (Teacup Games 1) title!
He also qualified in an Intermediate Standard run (SCT: 60; DRT: 39.38)!
Sunday
Fred qualified in Intermediate Standard with a 1st Place (SCT: 60; DRT: 33.94)!
It took him a few times to gather himself and focus for the weaves, but they don't count them until they enter them correctly; then they must complete them or it's a fault.
He earned his TIAD (Teacup Intermediate Agility Dog) title! Yea Freddie!
Fred moved up to Games II.
He qualified in Games II Double or Nothing with a 3rd Place (SCT: 60; DRT: 56.60)! His first GII leg!
Double or Nothing is the same as CPE Jackpot, NADAC Chances and AKC Fast -- accumulate points then do the gamble.
I'm proud of both of them and we all had a fun time!
Chris, Sophie and Fred

A Rally Good Sunday
This past Sunday, October 27th, Fred played in Cynosport rally (formerly APDT) trials hosted by our club, KanDoK9s, at our local K9Jym.
Trial 1 - Sara Jacobs
Fred was entered in Level 1B and Level 2A (Level 2 is off-lead).
Level 1 was a warm-up so he figures out what we're doing, and since he's on lead, he's easier to control (well, sort of!). His Level 2A entry was towards achieving his Level 2 title -- not too much pressure!
In Level 1B he qualified with a great score of 201! Not much sniffing, and getting a treat after some exercises is always appreciated!
In the Level 2 course we had a leave-dog-and-recall (1st exercise after start), two pivots (which neither of them do well), a moving-down-and-forward and the bonus was a moving-down-leave dog-turn-call front-finish R/L. There were also the usual turns, halts-walk arounds, etc., but I hadn't done the moving down with him before, so didn't know how he'd react.
His recall and finish were perfect (got a treat for that). As we continued through the course he didn't wander too far since I was able to get his focus by slapping the "treat" pocket of my left pant leg! We did the moving down and forward perfectly too! It wasn't the prettiest movement, but it worked! We finished the course and got to the bonus. During our walk-through, Sara showed us several ways of how we could work it.
We began, I dropped him, told him to stay and walked backward to the sign all while holding my hand up so he knew to stay. Called him front and finished -- it was beautiful! I was very proud of his performance throughout the entire course!
Drum roll please............He qualified with a score of 196 and 1st Place!
Fred earned his Level 2 (RL2) title! I was so proud of him earning it in 3 out of 3 runs!
For Trial 2 he moved up to Level 2B.
Trial 2 - Sandi Ver Sprill
Fred was still energetic for the afternoon trials. Going into Level 1B he was very good once again. Nothing too unusual, so Fred came through and qualified with a score of 205!
Level 2B had quite a few call front exercises with various finishes. Only once did we have to re-do one -- it called for a finish left and forward. Fred came front and although I guided him to a swing finish, he went around to my right. So I took him back, called him front, and as he was again starting to go to around me, I got his focus to follow my guide to do a swing and forward! Yikes! He also had to re-do the about U turn. We haven't done that in a while either, but he figured it out -- just took some fancy hand finagling on my part!
The bonus was leave your dog-turn-down your dog-return to heel position. We have practiced this at home, but as we all know -- that doesn't mean anything! I left him in a sit, walked away, turned, lifted my hand and said "drop!". He went down immediately! I returned without him moving an inch. Yea Fred!
Another Q with a score of 202!
At the end of the day the dogs always come home with me, have a nice dinner, and get to crash wherever they feel like knowing they are loved.

Coursing Ability Tests - Staten Island KC, Colts Neck, NJ - May 11, 2013
With two tests in one day, this was a great opportunity for Fred and he made the most of it.
On his first run he took the second turn really wide and had to stop to
relocate the lure, once it started moving again, he was on it, barking and finished in style actually crashing intop Chris as he was running so fast! Yea, Leg 2 towards his CAA!
In the afternoon he was even faster than the morning! He stayed on the lures and had another super run! Yea! 3rd leg!

Anything Sophie can do......
January 19-20, 2013 High Octane Agility NADAC trials under Judge Mark Gwillim from Rhode Island (in photo with Sophie)
Freddie qualified in 3 out of 5 Novice runs!
In Chris' words
He was entered in 2 Jumpers and 1 Tunnelers on Saturday as he hasn't perfected weaves yet.
I am proud to announce that Fred earned TWO Novice Jumpers legs with a 1st Place in both! First run we were 10 secs. under time, and our second run we were 15 secs. under! Woohoo! We were bookin'!
Sunday came and once again we were ready to run. Well, the dogs were, I was still quite tired and sleepy! ;o)
Fred had an easy day with 1 Tunnelers and 1 Touch N' Go (contacts and tunnels).
The Tunnelers course had a much nicer flow than on Saturday. I left him at the start line, lead out, released him and the rest was a thing of beauty! Fred qualified for his first Novice Tunnelers leg with a 1st Place, and 17 secs. under time!

Coursing Countdown
Freddie was one of four JJ dogs to have fun at the Empire Saluki Club Coursing Ability Tests (CAT) in Colts Neck, New Jersey on April 14-15, 2012.
He earned his first two CAT Legs running 600 yards in well under the 120 sec time limit (65 seconds on Sunday).
Though he nearly cost Chris a $5.00 penalty by eluding capture after his run. Fortunately he was lured back onto the lure and Chris grabbed him within the five minutes allowed..

June 26, 2011 - APDT Rally trials hosted by OakesK9

October 31, 2010 - APDT trials hosted by OakesK9
Fred was entered in Level 1B. His morning score (under Sue Oakes) was 203 and he worked really well, even paying attention at times!
His afternoon score (under Annette Murphy-Wales) was only a 198 because he "hoovered" the entire course, only bringing his nose up when he had to sit!
His bonus exercise was perfect (call front, side step front) which really saved our score! I never know which Fred I'm bringing into the ring each time -- the "I'm going to watch really well" or "hoover time"!
These were his 2nd and 3rd legs towards his championship. Something to look forward to achieving next year.

Sunday October 03, 2010 Two APDT Rally trials hosted by Kan-Do-K9s indoors at K9Jym
Trial No. 1
Fred's turn Judge Annette Murphy-Wales. Oh boy, this could be his title -- not too much pressure! Fred got into some sniffing which caused a tight lead at times,
and he had a few crooked sits (he tends to move around so he can see my face), but he nailed our bonus exercise which was sit, leave your dog, call to heel.
Fred's score: 204 and 1st Place!! Drum roll please....Shivaree Fredericton's Finest, RL1
Trial No. 2
Judge Annette Murphy-Wales -It was Fred's turn to go first this time. He must have known we were in the "B" class because he gave the most awesome performance yet. I just kept talking to him and moving at a quick pace and he did everything I asked beautifully. His attention was amazing -- I just kept saying "you watch Mommy" and he did. He did have a few crooked sits because there were quite a few pivots in both directions, but no matter. Our bonus exercise was heel, call to front, side step call to front. Well, the first front was the most beautifully executed one any of my dogs have ever done! He sat perfectly centered at my feet looking up. When I stepped sideways and called him, he repeated it exactly. Everyone applauded! I told him he finished in high style! I gave him several treats at that point before we left the ring.
Fred's score: 204 again! Whee doggies! His first leg towards his RL1X!

Nothing to Sniff at!!!!
Fred made his debut in Level 1A at the APDT Rally Trials in Colmar March 13-13, 2010. From Chris:
"His first run under was very good considering his attention span was that of a gnat! One of the most important aspects the judges want is a loose lead. Well, Fred couldn't have pulled harder as we moved around the course! The only time his nose was off the ground was when he sat at the halts and doing his fronts. I was impressed with his moving down since we had only learned this last Thursday. The bonus was a call front; side step front. He did it beautifully! Those extra points made up for the ones he lost on heeling. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed him and said how well he did for his first try! Fred earned his first Level 1A leg with a score of 190! Yea!
His second run in the afternoon was even more entertaining (according to everyone who watched)! From the time we started the course his nose was attached to the floor (even worse than the morning)! No amount of talking to him helped. But we did get through it and the bonus was sit, leave the dog, call to heel position. The first time, he went with me, so we re-did it. I left him and he stayed (major accomplishment for Fred) and once I was positioned, I called him to heel. So he left and came to my side, sniffing the entire way, and as he got close to heel position, I told him to sit. Well, Fred's ears went deaf and he continued sniffing just at that spot so I waited and waited, talking to him (as long as I didn't say "sit" again, it was ok) and hoping he'd at least look up. Finally he lifted his head, looked at me and I said "well?" The lightbulb went on and he sat! Whew! As we turned to leave the ring the judge said "gee, that was painful, but it worked!". Everyone got a big chuckle out of it, including me! In spite of all that, Fred earned his second leg with another score of 190! I was so proud of him! He was so happy to be there since he's such a social butterfly and loves meeting people and dogs. He didn't care about his achievements"
